So its our second day in Rome and wow...have we had the experience today! First off...breakfast. Did we tell you how absolutely incredible our hotel is??? So you walk in the lobby and it looks like Allis old "pretty room", aka tons of antiques and beautiful things. Then, breakfast is incredible. The best coffee and eggs we have ever had with a beautiful view of the Colliseum and the city! So this morning, Alli was dying for bacon and it was out, so she went back like 3 or 4 times to check if it had been refilled. Finally she gave up and game back to drink coffee, until the Italian waitress came over to say "bacon for you! we made more!" so she had totally been watching alli drool over more bacon and made more for her. so alli took only 1 piece. go figure! So next, we went to these old ruins called Ostia Antica, which was cool, but to be completely honest, pretty boring. There is only so many ruins and old brick cemetaries that you can see before you are over it...well at least thats how we feel. ANd it was pouring down rain and we were the only 2 out of 4 people on our whole trip who brought umbrellas so we look pretty prissy in our pea coats, boots, umbrellas, and dry hair. So we took off early and proceeded to find our way back on the metro to the hotel and we succeeded! We were so proud until Alli, aka timber, ALMOST fell up the stairs in a crowd of fast impatient Italians in the metro station. Finally we got back to the hotel, freshened up, and found a wine bar to go to for lunch. DELICIOUS! We had a mixed cheese platter with an amaznig cabernet wine. It was all fabulous, but lets just say we do NOT like the moldy cheese. But we at least tried it so be proud! After drinking a couple of glasses of wine, we left and tried to find shampoo. We read our language map and failed miserably to ask some random Italian men on the side of the road how to find shampoo. Allis mom - the sheets from AAA are terrible! hahaha oh well. Next we found a shop entitled "sexy shop" so we decided to try to go in but got really funny looks and turned around quickly after we noticed a naked male manniquen inside wearing a thong. We went back to the hotel after being honked at and almost run over by a Vespa and finally made it back. Then comes the real adventure. Jenna attempted to buy Vodka (be proud Daddy Bill and Derek) but we found out it is NOTHING close to vodka. It is called something Bianca and when opened, made our whole room smell like rice vinegar. BUt apparently it is considered a delicacy over here in ITaly because many Italians drink it straight up in a chilled glass with friends while socializing around a fire...according to Google. GROSS is all we have to say. We took a couple of shots but had to plug our noses in the process, chase the shots with orange and a kit kat before unplugging our noses...that is how terrible this stuff is. But lemme tell you, we found DARK CHOCOLATE kit kats...um...AMAZING! (Jennas mom - you would LOVE this) We decided we cannot buy anymore. One is enough and it was gone in 5 minutes...with out shots. So we left the room, a little tipsy, and proceeded to catch the metro to head to the Termini stop to change busses to head to San Giovani where the 50% off fashion Gucci and Prada store is, and this whole in the wall internet cafe where we are blogging now for 1,50 Euros for an hour. SO CHEAP! But we had another blonde moment. We got on the wrong metro going the wrong way and had to get off and ask some Italians who didnt speak English how to get to the other side and finally crossed the street and found our way. So here we are. Tonight we meet for dinner at 7pm and then its a girls 21 run on our trip so were going out on the town, Italian style! Some of the kids went out last night and found a bar that LOVED us Americans and made them red white and blue shots for free and played Americna music specially for them. SO were going to go there and to another dance club and just explore the night life in Italy. Dont worry, well watch out for each other and be very careful! Dont worry about us!
This is such an amazing experience and were glad we can share it with each other and with you on a daily basis! Keep checking in for more updates to come!
P.S. Being over here has made us realize what amazing families and friends we have. We are so grateful to have you in our lives! It has also made us realize how lucky we are to have such incredibly supportive, committed, and trusting boyfriends. We miss and love you all so much!!
Ciao!!!
Alli and Jenn
